The ZSE Insurance Monitor: Old Mutual saves insurers in subdued mid-week trading

HARARE, In a mid-week trading session on which the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) entered a consecutive second day to close in the red, for insurers only Old Mutual traded positive although in a marginal gain of $0.0003 to close at $3.93.

The diversified insurance and financial services group’s marginal gain was on the back of a decent trading activity which saw a total 364,594 shares exchanging hands.

Other insurance players, Fidelity Life Assurance traded flat at $0.14 with a total 180,697 shares trading at a value of $25 297,58. This comes after the company yesterday announced a new funeral cover product called Fidelity Medicover, which is a unique Funeral Cover that offer policy holder’s free drugs cover.  

There were no trades in First Mutual Holdings, Nicoz Diamond Insurance and Zimre Holdings.

Elsewhere, Econet pushed up $0.0015 to trade at $0.3665. Meanwhile, the Industrial Index lost a further 0.07 points (0.04%) to close at 197.85 points. SEEDCO (SEED.zw) traded $0.0337 lower at $1.3663 whilst ARISTON (ARIS.zw) dropped $0.0020 to settle at $0.0080. PADENGA (PHL.zw) shed $$0.0010 to trade at $0.2715.

On the upside, HIPPO (HIPO.zw) added $0.0150 to close at $0.8250, whilst MASIMBA (MSHL.zw) gained $0.0112 to trade at $0.0520 and ECONET (ECO.zw). Other gains were in DAIRIBORD (DZL.zw) which was up by $0.0001 to close at $0.0700.

The Mining index slipped 0.79 points (1.13%) to close at 69.19 points after BINDURA (BIND.zw) went down by $0.0010 to close at $0.0290.  FALGOLD (FALG.zw), HWANGE (HCCL.zw) and RIOZIM (RIOZ.zw) remained unchanged at previous trading levels at $0.0100, $0.0250 and $0.5525 respectively.
