ZSE Insurance companies monitor

HARARE, The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) Monitor debuts as a daily tracker on the performance of insurance companies listed on the local bourse. It is a product that is relied upon by industry professionals, investors and many other stakeholders for its insight and market intelligence on Zimbabwe’s insurance markets.

Key trends are identified and analysed, the industry’s events and losses are dissected for what impact they will have on the industry, with balance sheets and share prices also being critically analysed and interrogated.

Currently, five companies are listed on the ZSE as outright insurance players while other companies have incorporated insurance units under their purview. Our point of departure in this series will look at today’s local bourse performance.

In today’s trading session, First Mutual Holdings Limited (FMHL) was the toss of the day for insurance companies after gaining $0.0055 to settle at $0.1180 at the close of today’s trading session.

FML is currently engaged in negotiations for the possible takeover of NSSA’s majority shareholding in short term insurer Nicoz Diamond.

Old Mutual Plc traded flat at $3.93. A total 35 870 shares of the group changed hands in today’s session with a total value of $140.969. No trades happened in the shares of Nicoz Diamond, Fidelity and Zimre which remained on their previous prices.

Econet Wireless which has under its units Ecosure improved by $0.0025 to close at $0.3625. Ecosure is a mobile based funeral assurance scheme and has registered significant growth since its relaunch in 2014, riding largely on the Group’s subscribers. ZB, FBC and Getbucks did not trade.

Meanwhile, the Industrial Index opened the week on a higher note after putting on 0.34 points (0.17%) to close at 198.27 points. TSL (TSL.zw) added $0.0070 to close at $0.2325, FIRST MUTUAL (FML.zw) gained $0.0055 to settle at $0.1180 and NMBZ (NMB.zw) increased by $0.0035 to close at $0.0425. Other gains were in ECONET (ECO.zw) which improved by $0.0025 to close at $0.3625 and DELTA (DLTA.zw) was marginally up by $0.0011 to $1.2711.

MASIMBA (MSHL.zw) lost $0.0072 to settle at $0.0408, ZIMRE PROPERTY INVESTMENTS (ZPI.Zw) slipped $0.0010 to close at $0.0125 and SEEDCO (SEED.zw) eased $0.0001 to trade at $1.4499.


The Mining index was flat at 69.98 points. BINDURA (BIND.zw), FALGOLD (FALG.zw), HWANGE (HCCL.zw) and RIOZIM (RIOZ.zw) remained unchanged at previous trading levels at $0.0300, $0.0100, $0.0250 and $0.5525 respectively.
