HARARE, Minerva Risk Solutions has implored its clients to adhere to lockdown regulations, in particular curfew hours, to avoid possibility of disputes with insurers in the unfortunate event of an accident occurring outside curfew hours.
Sisami Wadi, the general manager, said although the insurance contracts have no explicit provisions regarding curfew rules and regulations, there has been currently no precedent by various insurance companies on whether breach of curfew regulations will be deemed to be a breach of the insurance contract and national legislation, which will result in the repudiation of a claim.
“Accordingly, as a word of caution, we implore our clients to adhere to the lockdown regulations, particulary relating to curfew times,” Wadi said.
Mineva noted that it had received numerous enquiries from its clients over the subject. It further advised that as a general rule of law, insurance policies do not cover any acts or incidents which may be contrary to public policy or legislation.
