International speakers headline the Zimbabwe Association of Funeral Assurers (ZAFA)

Harare – Several international speakers headline this year’s Zimbabwe Association of Funeral Assurers (ZAFA) conference which will be held from 31 July to 01 August 2017 in Bulawayo.

Notably among them are Teresa Saavedra who is FIAT IFTA President from Bolivia, Alex Granger from South Africa and Emerson De Luca from United Kingdom.

Local speakers include Tendai Karonga Commissioner IPEC who will deliver the Keynote Address and Sebastian Zuze of SAZ, Pupurai Togarepi of IPEC and Request Machimbira.

The conference unites and promotes the funeral industry players in Zimbabwe through sharing of knowledge and experiences. The funeral industry is comprised of both funeral assurance and pure funeral services.

Topical issues that will come under spotlight include Micro Insurance and Financial Inclusion –An Opportunity for Funeral Business in Zimbabwe.

In this regard, IPEC recently launched a micro-insurance policy framework that aims to ensure affordable insurance products are available to low income earners. This is also expected to drive the insurance penetration rate from the current low of 3.6% to over 20% by 2020.

Combating Funeral Assurance Fraud- The role of the Assurer will be another topical issue, as several cases of fraudulent funeral claims have resulted in assures losing money. Fraud in the sector is currently a topical issue in the global insurance sector and experts are exploring ways to address such.

Other topics are the social and emotional context of a funeral- What Funeral Directors Need to Know.

The conference will also give an opportunity for ZAFA’s stakeholders to showcase their products and services and forge business relationships with the funeral industry.

Tersa Saavedra of Bolivia will share her country’s experience on Funeral Assurance and Services.
