Air Zimbabwe seeks provision of insurance cover for assets
HARARE, National airliner, Air Zimbabwe is looking for companies that can provide Insurance Cover for its assets. This comes amid reports that the national airliner has rebranded to Zimbabwe Airways after concluding a long-term lease deal in Malaysia, which will result in the delivery of four modern Boeing 777-200 planes from Malaysia Airlines.
Among the national airline’s assets include Chinese made MA-60, an ageing 767-200 and refurbished Airbus A320 planes.
Government last year enacted a law that ring-fenced Air Zimbabwe’s assets from attachments due to debts owed to different creditors. In 2016, the national carrier was reported to require about $1 billion to recapitalize, with $298 million required to service both its domestic and foreign debts, which emanated from navigation, landing, handling fees, fuel supplies, salary arrears and rentals.
