Telecel revamps Telecare mobile insurance

HARARE, Mobile network company, Telecel has upgraded its mobile insurance product Telecare which is in sync with its underwriter Zimnat Life Assurance which last month upgraded its Whole Life plan.

Under the partnership with Zimnat, Telecel provides the mobile platform for its subscribers to access the service while Zimnat underwrites and administer the full service.

According to Telecel, the revamped and revitalized Telecare have products that include Travel cover, Hospital cash back, funeral cover and medical cover.

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulator (Potraz) in its latest quarterly report says Telecel has over 2.4 mln subscribers, becoming the third largest mobile network company trailing Netone and Econet.

The Tarrifs

According to Telecel, for as little as 50 cents per month you can be on telecare Single Value cover, which gives you $250.00 worth of funeral cover and hospital cash back of up to $25 each day you are in hospital due to an accident. For just $2.15 per month you can enjoy Family Value cover for your immediate family.

In addition to all this, Telecel is giving all telecare subscribers a chance to sign up for Travel cover and Medical cover at affordable rates.

Government last year completed a $40 million purchase of 60 % stake in Telecel from the Amsterdam headquartered Vimpelcom. The purchase of Telecel was done through ZARNet an Internet Service Provider wholly owned by the government and Telecel’s remaining 40% is owned by Empowerment Corporation, a group of local shareholders.

However, recently, government indicated that it is eyeing to wholly own the mobile operator in bid to end wrangles in the company with empowerment groups that has stalled growth in recent years.
