HARARE, Premier Service Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) has unveiled a low cost, high benefit product called Shield Plan with subscriptions of $10 per month, per member, everyone can afford quality healthcare.
The product best suits the informal sector which now is the biggest employer in the country and the plan is a culmination of years of research and input from players of the informal sector.
According to PSMAS, the Shield Plan gives members access to general practitioners, medical specialists, hospitalisation, rehabilitation, prescription drugs, dentistry, refraction, optical, maternity, radiology, psychiatric services, ambulances and other services. The plan has an annual global limit, total cost of the benefit package of $3 000.
The company will PSMAS said it was going to have agents on the streets of Harare from yesterday and would soon launch a new FlexiHealth version of the Shield Plan, as well as their Premier Lifestyle wellness programme.
PSMAS is a government-funded health insurer but the Group has over the past few years been embroiled in management and Board disputes.
Over the years, the biggest challenge that faced PSMAS was the non-remittance of subscriptions by key member organisations, with the society having to make do with about 25% of its income against a full usage rate with members utilising non-existent funds.
