The Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ) last Friday hosted its Annual Gala Dinner and Awards, an event that recognised visionary leaders and professionals whose lifelong contributions have shaped the country’s insurance industry.
Speaking at the celebratory dinner, IIZ president Clementine Chinyuku said the occasion was dedicated to honouring individuals whose “unwavering dedication and exemplary leadership have left an indelible mark” on the sector.
“Tonight, we gather to pay tribute to visionary icons and distinguished professionals whose lifelong contributions have not only strengthened our profession but also advanced the insurance sector and inspired generations of talent and excellence,” Chinyuku said.
She said the awards placed emphasis on legacy leadership, noting that the impact of the honourees extended well beyond their years of service.
Chinyuku said that the individuals recognised had been nominated through their respective professional associations, a process that reflected the depth of leadership across the industry.
“Our industry is blessed with many remarkable leaders. While we focus on those put forward through this structured, association-driven process, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who continue to shape and inspire our sector,” she said.

Chinyuku also paid tribute to the broader insurance community, saying the gala was not only about legends and nominees but also about every professional who upholds the values and standards of the industry through dedication and continuous learning.
“This evening we celebrate every insurance professional whose dedication and commitment uphold the values and standards of our industry. Your pursuit of excellence through continuous professional development ensures the growth and future resilience of the insurance profession,” she said.
She added that professionals at all stages of their careers played a critical role in driving progress and innovation while maintaining integrity within the sector.
“Whether you are just beginning your journey or have spent decades contributing to our sector, your efforts are vital in driving progress, fostering innovation, and maintaining the highest levels of integrity,” Chinyuku said.
The gala dinner and awards were held under the theme “Legacy Leadership – Building Tomorrow’s Insurance Champions”, which Chinyuku said captured the spirit of the evening and the future direction of the industry.

She said the strong turnout and atmosphere at the event reflected pride and confidence within the profession, as the industry collectively reflected on its achievements and future potential.
“Let us honour not only the legends and nominees but also each and every insurance professional whose ongoing learning, passion, and perseverance strengthen our community,” Chinyuku said.
IIZ General Manager Davison Choeni said the newly rebranded annual conference, now the Southern Africa Insurance Indaba, attracted delegates from more than seven countries.
