Zimbabwe Stock Exchange chief executive Justin Bgoni has been appointed Vice President of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA), placing him at the centre of efforts to deepen cooperation and cross-border investment across the continent’s securities markets.
Bgoni’s appointment, effective October 2, 2026, comes as African exchanges seek to strengthen inter-exchange liquidity, improve market connectivity and develop infrastructure capable of supporting greater movement of capital across borders.
Bgoni is the Group Chief Executive Officer of ZSE Holdings, where he oversees the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX) and Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange (ZEEX).
He also serves as interim chief executive officer of the Victoria Falls International Financial Centre.
His elevation to ASEA’s executive leadership gives Zimbabwe a stronger voice in regional discussions on the development and integration of African capital markets.
ASEA brings together securities exchanges across Africa and focuses on cooperation among member exchanges, development of capital market infrastructure and facilitating cross-border investment.
Bgoni will work with the association’s president, member exchanges and regional partners on strategic initiatives aimed at scaling African capital markets and strengthening their ability to attract both domestic and international investment.
The association is also looking to leverage technology-driven market infrastructure as exchanges respond to changing investor expectations and the need for more efficient and interconnected markets.
“I am deeply honoured to step into the role of Vice President of the African Securities Exchanges Association,” Bgoni said.
“Capital markets have a pivotal role to play in unlocking economic growth, facilitating sustainable investments, and strengthening regional connectivity across Africa.”
He said he looked forward to working with ASEA leadership and regional partners to accelerate capital mobility and develop financial infrastructure suited to the continent’s different markets.
Bgoni brings more than 24 years of international finance, management and executive leadership experience to the position, with a career spanning Zimbabwe, South Africa and New Zealand.
Before taking up his current leadership role in Zimbabwe’s capital markets, he served as Chief Financial Officer of the New Zealand Stock Exchange.
He also worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and held the position of Director of Private Equity at FNB.
His professional background combines capital markets, corporate finance, investment management and strategic consulting, experience that is expected to be relevant as African exchanges pursue greater integration.
Bgoni is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Zimbabwe and a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
He holds a Bachelor of Accounting Science degree, cum laude, from the University of South Africa and a Master in Finance, also cum laude, from the University of Wellington in New Zealand.
The appointment comes at a time when African capital markets are increasingly being viewed as an important channel for mobilising long-term funding for infrastructure, businesses and sustainable economic development.
For Zimbabwe, Bgoni’s position could provide an additional platform to promote the country’s exchanges and investment opportunities within broader continental capital-market initiatives.
