The Zimbabwe Association of Pension Funds (ZAPF) will bring together pension fund principal officers and chairmen in Bulawayo next week for its seventh annual convention, with innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and strategic leadership expected to dominate discussions.

The three-day convention, running from October 1 to 3 under the theme “Leading Beyond Uncertainty”, seeks to explore how pension funds can adapt to an increasingly technology-driven and uncertain operating environment.

ZAPF chairman Wonder Madyambudzi, who is also Business Development and Investments Executive for Employee Benefits at Zimnat Life Assurance, will deliver the welcome address officially opening the convention.

Madyambudzi has more than three decades of experience in employee benefits, insurance and pension fund administration, including previous roles at First Mutual Life and Fidelity Life Assurance.

Bothwell Patrick Nyajeka, Industrial and New Business Cluster CEO at Masawara Group and chairman of Zimnat Life Assurance, is scheduled to lead a session on “The Future-Ready Board”.

Nyajeka, a chartered accountant and executive coach, has more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning manufacturing, agribusiness, banking and financial services.

He has held senior CFO and CEO positions and served on the boards of companies including Turnall and Sable Chemicals.

Another key speaker is Agrippa Mugwagwa, managing director of Xarani (Pvt) Ltd, FBC Holdings’ fintech arm, who will lead a session on cybersecurity governance.

The session, scheduled for Friday, October 2, will examine how pension funds can protect assets, systems and member information as AI accelerates the sophistication of cyber threats.

Mugwagwa brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, banking, marketing and product innovation, including leadership in fintech and digital transformation.

The convention is expected to provide pension fund leaders with a platform to examine governance, technology and strategic responses needed to navigate emerging risks while positioning the sector for future growth.
